A space of calm and naturalness at the Museum of Fine Arts in Castellón.

When functionality guides the creative process, every choice contributes to an effective balance between form and purpose. In this context, design goes beyond the visual and transforms spaces into more accessible, versatile, and welcoming places.

This approach has been key in the recent renovation at the Museum of Fine Arts of Castellón. A significant transformation that renews and enhances one of its most valued areas: the library. The main goal of this project has been to enhance the functionality of this area beyond its traditional use. To achieve this, in addition to the interior refurbishment, the central patio has also been adapted.

With outdoor tables and chairs by Francisco Segarra, this library-adjacent space enhances the user experience, allowing visitors to enjoy reading or take a break in an open- air environment. Discover this corner of calm and naturalness with us…

Design and Functionality: An essential pairing.

Every museum is a cultural hub that preserves, studies, and promotes a society’s heritage. Its facilities must adapt to meet both aesthetic standards and the real-life dynamics of the public.

The Museum of Fine Arts of Castellón is a building that has received numerous national architecture awards. Its layout centers around a gardened cloister with cypress trees, formerly part of the Serra Espadá school.

This area connects temporary exhibitions, the auditorium, the cafeteria, and the newly renovated library. With the aim of creating a more functional, vibrant, and versatile space, it has been furnished with outdoor tables and chairs from Francisco Segarra’s catalogue.

Outdoor Furniture with an aesthetic and functional focus.

The selected furniture reinforces the museum’s role as a meeting place, not only with art but also with everyday life. These furnishings are in line with the environment, offering comfort while staying true to the building’s aesthetics.

Durable, practical, and timeless in design... The outdoor tables help maintain a bright and serene atmosphere with their warm beige tone. These are round tables with a central pedestal base, optimizing space while offering visual lightness and balance.

To accompany them, various models of rattan chairs have been chosen. With or without armrests, these organically shaped pieces give the space a relaxed, fresh, and welcoming ambiance. These outdoor chairs share a common design language, allowing for a coherent and fluid arrangement.

With this intervention, the Museum of Fine Arts introduces new ways to enjoy its space through an aesthetic and functional approach. The cloister is now a place to combine the pleasure of reading with the tranquillity of a natural and open setting, reaffirming the power of functional design.
