Lebanese Tony Ismail, a thoughtful and quiet man wanted to open a small restaurant in Brooklyn, but it was being difficult to find the perfect space. The last venue he had seen was narrow and unusual, but that night he had a premonitory dream about his next success. The following day he wasted no time in signing the contract and started to break down the walls by his own until he achieved the perfect place to make his dream real.

Cafe Alula. A charming Lebanese restaurant at 252 Franklin Street, Brooklyn, NY. At this point, stores reconverted into galleries and artists’ studios share the sidewalk with live music bars and fashionable restaurants.

When a business is born under a lucky star.

Tony has not been always lucky with his businesses. His first venue, an Italian restaurant, was a failure and he had to give up it. After a long journey to his hometown, Beirut, he decided to change the cuisine of his culture by authentic family recipes and has turned Cafe Alula into the truest Lebanese restaurant in New York.

Arabian names, with their own stories and mysteries, and the belief of their magical properties. Alula means “he was said” … because sometimes a dream is only that, a dream, although it can mean something else.

In Cafe Alula you see the stars when look down, and it means for us a dream fulfilled.
