Retro industrial design at DAVITA Italian Gastro Market by Costa+dos

DAVITA Italian Gastro Market, the first Italian restaurant in Barcelona, combining casual dining and the gastronomic market. An excellent project by the Costa+dos studio with furniture from the Francisco Segarra line of hospitality furniture.

Between Balmes and Rambla Catalunya, we find this unique gastronomic concept, nine stops with the different specialties of Italian gastronomy. Tapas, cheeses, piadinas, focaccias, carpaccio, pizzas, pastas, desserts, and ice cream.

Italian cuisine, without a doubt, one of the most typical and beloved delicacies in all corners of the world; served in a space where all dishes are cooked, now, in view of the customer and with fresh products of the highest quality.

From breakfast to lunch on the terrace; from lunch with a good Italian wine, to the live enlivened dinner; Davita always offers products exported directly from Italian lands. Its pasta is cooked on the spot and served freshly made, very hot. Convinced that “knowing how to cook is about finding, in the satisfaction of the other, one’s own satisfaction.”

The creators of this space without menus, where the client can smell before choosing what the chef will cook for him exclusively, are Costa+two. Architecture and interior design studio located in Gava, Barcelona, with more than 25 years of experience, developing architecture and interior design projects and offering services as a construction company. An admirable team of architects, interior designers and engineers allows them to approach projects globally, offering a complete service at all stages of construction.

Specialized in interior design projects, both commercial premises, catering, and housing, they have given life to this Italian gastro market of 600 m2 and nine marketplaces where the different products are served.

Each stall uses a different material; ranging from wavy veneer to aged wood plating, creating a market look and playing with colours and textures.

The facade is delayed a few meters creating a porch that makes an interior terrace. At the entrance there is a corridor with the wall lined with mirrors and windows suspended from the ceiling.

The central part is set in a living room where the continuous industrial pavement gives way to the wooden parquet and where we find benches upholstered with leathers of different colours.

The managers of the restaurant design project have preserved the old wall coverings, leaving in sight the natural stone walls and high ceilings that show the facilities in sight.

Awnings, Alicante blinds, white tiles, large industrial type luminaires, wall lamps with extendable arms and a lot of freshness in a totally open space, where an authentic Italian Gastro Market has been recreated in an atmosphere of old factory using retro-industrial furniture by Francisco Segarra.

In Costa+dos, they have been aware of the relevance of the choice of furniture for use in a room in a restaurant; and the result is an outstanding interior design and decoration project.

Trinity tables with drawers and zinc top, evoking the old kitchen tables; Totem tables with their successive stripping to simulate a natural stripping affected by time; Gisela tables with their sturdy cast iron legs and Magna forging tables, synonymous with craftsmanship and tradition; are a wise choice.

Chairs and stools help to separate the different environments. The markedly industrial design of the Praga and Riana high metal stools is complemented by the minimalism of the Assadi stools and the cosy four-legged stools or Mews skate legs in smooth or padded leather, which we also see in its chair version.

A combination of chairs that provides comfort and colour. The retro design of Thais, Tribeca, or Madeira chairs, the French 1920s design of the limited edition Dres white oxide metal chairs, the nostalgic touch of the Agora and Roulin chairs made of restored woods or the elegance of the Asmara chairs in natural braided rattan.

The lighting is so important on a practical and aesthetic level, on large areas; it also has lamps and light fixtures from the Francisco Segarra lighting catalogue. Pieces such as beautiful Agnes luminaires of workshop or cage type; the original Aztec long arm wall lamps, or Andy hanging lamps.

We thank Costa+dos for the trust placed in our online vintage & industrial furniture store, as well as the project images. A project that brings us closer to the taste of the Italian market in its maximum splendour.
