Marimer, passion and respect in a 100%FS design project.

With the passion to revive a symbol of Campamento neighbourhood, in Madrid; with respect for those who gave life to a family business that knew how to reach the hearts of its customers; and with the affection that deserves a traditional and artisan pastry where bread and sweets are made with care and dedication …

Only in this way the rebirth of Marimer has been possible, a traditional pastry shop that re-raised its shutters, awakening new hopes, encouraging small local businesses, and trusting in a 100% FS refurbishment and interior design project.

Marimer is a small corner establishment in one of the seven neighbourhoods of the La Latina district in Madrid. A local business that serves the neighbourhood since 1975 and that faces a new period with the experience and talent of a leading brand in furniture and decoration for the integral design of its interior design.

A space beating again.

With his soul in the place that saw him grow and with his optimistic character, Iván Sevillano, better known as Huecco, and his partner Laura Jiménez decided to bet on this coffee and pastry shop that had stopped beating.

Marimer was founded 45 years ago by Mrs Victoria and Mr Ángel, a couple that knew how to keep their customers loyalty. Their daughters continued to manage it, making it a popular meeting point where we could sweeten our palates. In the middle of the pandemic, this secluded coffee shop closed its doors, leaving the neighbourhood, who have enjoyed it for almost half a century, desolate.

Traditional establishments are part of the history of a city, and Sevillano knew that he had to rescue this charming place.

Trusting in Francisco Segarra’s team and with the premise of preserving the essence of its founders, the space began its change towards a design that moves between the Provençal and the industrial with influences from the typical French pastry shops. An interior design that is at the height of its gourmet product.

Marimer, a story that reaches to this day.

A place where bread, cakes and sweets are made one by one in an artisanal way deserved an interior design designed only and exclusively for it. Francisco Segarra’s team wanted to give prominence to the story behind this new version of Marimer.

With a clear declaration of intentions, the sign of the entrance, engraved in wood imitating the effect of the typical burning of wood ovens, immerses us in a cosy atmosphere, which harmonizes the most traditional with ground-breaking touches.

The team of interior designers made an adaptation of the company’s logo and following the initial premise of preserving fragments of its wonderful story, the original M that was devised in its beginnings was maintained.

The shop window becomes their best business card, an old scale with artisan bread on display is accompanied by rattan baskets and a handful of natural wheat. The best way to pay homage to its roots and to conquer our appetite…

An interior design that preserves the essence of its roots.

The new space managed to create visual amplitude and delimit the different areas by combining the vintage coatings and floorings.

The furniture is incorporated giving that ground-breaking nuance but preserving the most traditional essence through its materials. Tables made of recovered or aged wood, chairs upholstered in leather, jute or rattan, dark metals or in oxide effect…

In order to bring some versatility to the place, they opted for the use of folding tables and chairs, which fully maintain their elegance and comfort.

In the same way, the lighting of the premises suits this interior design, letting its industrial features peek through the warmth of the wood. The use of wall sconces usually offers a more blurred light creating a more welcoming atmosphere.

An interior design that has its foundations in the beautiful history of the place could not do without those who gave it life. Making a nod to the people of the neighbourhood, who made it an emblem, and as a tribute to the first founders of Marimer, Mr Ángel and Mrs Victoria, the artist Tato Repetto made a graffiti that represents the former owners. A work that is composed of past dreams and those to come.

Marimer’s revamped version contains the passion, respect, and affection with which the design project began. And among that source of authentic emotions, we find the talent and the ability to make it real of Francisco Segarra’s team of interior designers.
